American Planning Association NY Metro President
Maxwell Sokol, AICP is the President of the American Planning Association (APA) New York Metro Chapter, which represents more than 1,000 planners in the 14-county region that includes New York City, Long Island, and the Lower Hudson Valley. Max also serves as Vice Chair of the Presidents Leadership Committee on the APA Chapter Presidents Council, which advises the APA Board of Directors on matters pertaining to the 36,000 APA members from around the country.
In addition to his APA role, Max is a Supervising Planner in WSP’s Planning & Environmental Group in the New York Office. Max has experience as a Project Manager and Deputy Project Manager on a range of projects, including multi-modal transportation planning and transit-oriented development planning in the Northeast and beyond. Max graduated from Brown University with a dual Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Anthropology, with Honors/Phi Beta Kappa, and graduated from Columbia University with a Master of Science in Urban Planning degree.
