Costa Constantinides

District 22 - New York City Council
Council Member
Costa Constantinides represents the New York City Council’s 22nd District, which includes his native Astoria along with parts of Jackson Heights, Woodside, and East Elmhurst. Costa was elected to the City Council in 2013, becoming the first Greek-Cypriot-American elected to office in New York City.
Environmental policy has been a priority for Costa. The Council unanimously passed his bill to reduce carbon emissions 80% by 2050, now Local Law 66 of 2014. To help achieve this, Costa has sponsored additional legislation to encourage more use of solar, wind, geothermal, and biofuels. He also spearheaded the stretch energy code legislation enacted earlier this year.
After attending P.S. 84 and P.S. 122 in Astoria, Costa graduated Cum Laude from CUNY Queens College and Benjamin Cardozo School of Law. Costa resides in Astoria with his wife and son.
